Easy And Fun Hairstyles For Kids

That big fat wedding or dress-up day in school is fast approaching and you have selected the perfect outfit for your child. But what about the hair? The same old black hairband or ponytail for your daughter and a neat oiled side parting for your son. Is that what you’re thinking? Come on, mom and dad, show some spunk! This is the YouTube generation and their style game calls for something more special. We aren’t suggesting that can of pink dye (as of yet!) but there are loads of ideas to work with to transform your kid's looks. Game to try? Here are some choices.

For girls

1.Irish knot

Irish knot hairstyle

Should you leave the hair open, should you not? Address this never ending puzzle with the in-between solution called Irish (or Celtic) knot that is a classic European hairstyle and a popular jewelry knot too.

How to do it :

  • Brush the hair straight and take a small section of hair from the leftmost side.
  • Make a loop with it so it looks like an ‘r’ from the side.
  • Take a similar bunch of hair from the right side and bring it under the ‘r’ knot.
  • Take the loose end of the hair through the outside loop then through the inner loop.
  • Take the other end now and take it through the center, back and top loop.
  • Pull gently and voila! Your chic little lady is all set to dazzle.

2.The crown braid

The crown braid

What’s a princess without a crown? But you don’t have to go around shopping for a tiara for that. Try the crown braid. As the name suggests, this popular hairstyle is the ideal complement for a princess themed party.

How to do it :

  • Make a middle hair parting. Keep one side loose and other one tied up with a rubber band.
  • Start from the bottom of the loose hair side and split it into three small sections.
  • Braid them dutch style, that is cross each section underneath each other.
  • Work across the head till you reach the top. Pin it up
  • Similarly, make three sections on the other side but start from the top here and work yourself to the bottom.
  • Wrap around the braided hair like a crown and pin it up. You can even use a jewel pin which will give it a regal look, just the ‘princessy’ mood your child loves to be in!

3.The ribbon bun

The ribbon bun

Maybe you are the kind who draws a blank when it comes to fancy hairstyles for kids. Not to worry, the ribbon bun is tailor-made for you. Ideal for weddings, parties and the odd fancy dress if your child likes dressing up as Minnie Mouse, you can learn this simple hairstyle in minutes.

How to do it :

  • Brush the hair and pull your hair into a ponytail.
  • Instead of tying the hair up, as usual, create a loop that’s thick enough to hold its shape.
  • Take a little gel and give the bow a little shape and tuck in extra hair, if any.
  • Tie in a satin ribbon that matches with your child’s dress and you are all set to rock that party!

For boys

We know what you’re thinking. What hair styling can you do for boys that have short hair (thanks to strict schools)? Believe it or not, lots!

Spikes hairstyle

This classic hairstyle is always a winner with kids and adults alike and is workable with hair of all textures.

How to do it :

  • Wash the hair and leave it damp.
  • Take a little organic hair gel and rub it well with your fingers.
  • Apply the gel nicely over the top hair.
  • Once, it is covered well with gel, smoothen it over with your palms, pull it up for straight spikes till you get the desired effect. Guaranteed to suit the little rebel!

2.Short hair fade

Short hair fade hairstyle

So you are up for a bit of experimentation, without being drastic. Go for the short hair fade where the hair on the top of the head is kept thick while cropping off or trimming the side hair.  This is a popular modern style and is easy to maintain.

How to do it :

  • Dry washed hair produces the best results with this hairstyle. Trim the front and the back with a pair of scissors.
  • Use a trimmer on a low setting to trim the lower and side portions.
  • You can either opt for a simple trim or a fancy one with two lines or an alphabet.
  • Give the hair a bit of a shine with some gel (optional) and you will be amazed at the result.

Little boys and curly hair- that’s an irresistible combination! But not all little ones have a curly texture nor can they sit for hours to get a perm. The solution- give your child instant curls!

How to do it :

  • Take some organic hair gel and rub it around your fingers.
  • Apply the gel all over the hair from root to tip.
  • Once it is completely applied, use your fingers to roll around strands of hair.
  • Hit up a spot of a blow dryer to set the curls and your boy is all ready to impress!

Hair is such a versatile medium to work with and has the potential to alter your look dramatically. When it comes to fancy hairstyles for kids, we recommend going easy on the hair sprays and keeping it basic so it’s easier and safer for them. For more fashion tips, visit our website Happy styling!
